Established in 1859. SPHERE OF ACTIVITY Tomsk Dramatic Theatre is one of the oldest theatres in Siberia. The first theatre building was built as early as 1850 by merchant and owner of gold-mines A.E. Filimonov. In 1970s-1980s the Theatre entered the All-Union scene: tours in Moscow, Leningrad, Minsk, Khar’kov, and other large cities, diplomas of All-Union and All-Russia festivals, publications in central press. The director of the Theatre of that time, the Honoured Art Worker of the Russian Federation, Feliks Grigor’yan and the Honoured Actor of the Russian Federation Vladimir Varentsov won the K.S.Stanislavskii State Prize. Now the performances are on the Bol’shaya and Malaya stages. Along with the professional actors, who are true to the theatre cause for a long time, young actors and students of the actors’ and directors’ course of the Tomsk College of Culture headed by Oleg Permyakov, chief director, and Valentina Beketova, actress, take part in performances. The Theatre opened its 137th season with the premiere performance "Stepanchikovo village and its inhabitants" by F.M.Dostoevskii.
