Established in May 1896. SHPERE OF ACTIVITY Scientific researches and training of engineers and high-qualified specialists are focused on the prior directions of the scientific and technical progress: nuclear physics and accelerator equipment; power-and material-saving technologies based on modern electrophysical methods of action on materials; nondestructive methods for control over the quality of materials and constructions; systems for control and optimization, artificial intelligence and multimedia; study of materials, including space ones; industrial ecology; power resources and power supply. The Unversity includes Russian-American, Russian-German, Russian-Korean Centers, Business Center, Center for Training in Languages, which perform training and retraining of specialists. MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS The University has trained 92.5 thousands of engineers during its existence. Now it takes ninth place in the rating of Technical University Association, which includes 83 higher educational establishments. At present the University preforms the training of engineers in 54 specialities (8750 students). Every year 30-40 candidate’s thesis and 8-10 doctor’s thesis are defined. Scientific-technical principles of construction of the small-size accelerators (betatrons) are developed in the University. Their serial production is organized both in our country and aboard. Developed and promoted is the progressive electro-explosive technology for processing and destruction of materials as well as the technology for production of ultradisperse metal powders. With the modern equipment on hand, new fundamental results on nuclear physics and physics of nuclear particles are obtained, new forms of electromagnetic radiation are discovered and being studied, new high radiative technologies are being developed.
